      Tonky and Wanly

They always looked at people with loving eyes.

      Uh-huh(ほ〜ほ〜)

      They were sweet and gentle-hearted.

No, in this sentence, sweet means,

      Oh then?

Everyone at the zoo said with tears, " If they can live a few more days, the war may end and they will be saved."

        What about the second one?

Yeah. Soon, it was time to kill the three elephants.
It was time, is very important expression. Expression means,

So,  Soon, it was time to kill the three elephants. means

        OK. Then?

The zookeepers did not want to kill them, but they had to follow the orders.

        They started with John. John
John loved potatoes, so they gave him poisoned potatoes together with good ones.

        Then he ate them?

But John was so clever that he ate only the good potatoes.

This sentence is very very important.
So That, means , とても〜〜なので, 〜〜です。 Can you make some sentences with So that?

        OK. ,..
I was so tired that I slept for ten hours. Is this OK?

        That's a good sentence.
Then they tried to give him an injection.

But John's skin was too hard for the needles to go through.
        John
This sentence is also very very important. Can you make a Too To sentence?

        Well,
This せんべい is too hard for me to eat!
        Right?

        Right.
Finally, they decided to stop giving him any food.

        Oh then?

Poor John died in seventeen days.

        Oh john..
OK Anyway, let me read it.

to follow the orders. They started with John. John loved potatoes, so they gave him poisoned potatoes

Master, tell me the ぞうさん Story part 1.

          Yeah.
Many years ago, there were three wonderful elephants at the 上野 Zoo.

            There were,  means  〜〜があった, right?

Yes. So, there were three wonderful elephants, means 3

            OK, then?

The elephants were John, Tonky and Wanly.

          They could do tricks.

            Could means can の過去形?

          Yeah.

            uh-huh(ほ〜ほ〜)

Visitors to the zoo loved to see their tricks.

What the hell did you say?

Visitors loved. This is the main idea.

            So, Visitors loved what?

Good Question. Visitors loved, to see the tricks.

OK. So what the fuck was the whole sentence?

Visitors to the zoo loved to see their tricks. So, Zoo

            OK. Visitors to the Zoo.

Japan was at war then. Japan は, at war, でした。.  at war, means, 戦争中。

            Then?

Little by little, the situation was getting worse.  Worse is ,bad ,worse ,worst ,の worse.

And, little by little, means 少しずつ, right?

Right. So, Little by little the situation was getting worse.  means.

            Uh-huh. Then?

Bombs were dropped on Tokyo every day.

            Yeah.

If bombs hit the zoo, dangerous animals will get away and harm people.

If bombs hit the zoo,  so, Then dangerous what?

Dangerous animals get away. This is the main idea.

          And, Harm means,

So, If bombs hit the zoo, dangerous animals will get away and harm people, said the Amy. means, もしZooがボムられたら、Dangerousなアニマルが東京の人に危害を加える, right?

          That's right.

So, it ordered the zoo to kill all the dangerous animals such as lions, tigers, and bears.

Army ordered the zoo, means, 軍はZooに命令した。

            Order what?

To kill all the dangerous animals.

            Uh-huh. such as, means , 〜〜のような, right?

OK. So, let me try to read it!

Many years ago, there were three wonderful elephants at the Ueno Zoo. The elephants were john, Tonky and Wanly. They could do tricks. Visitors to the zoo loved to see their tricks. Japan was at war then. Little by little the situation was getting worse. Bombs were dropped on Tokyo every day. "If bombs hit the zoo, dangerous animals will get away and harm people," said the Army. So, it ordered the zoo to kill all the dangerous animals such as lions, tigers, and bears.

          Well done!
